Thank you so much to all of you for the PDM issue pecha kuchas. Another piece of the puzzle is falling into place! The pecha kucha will act as the basis for subsequent work you do on the PDM, including writing your objectives, creating your trainer and participant manuals, and giving your group oral presentation.
For the blog this week, please meet as a group (or collaborate through a Google doc) to construct the response that you will post to this blog. You need only make ONE COMMENT PER PDM GROUP.
To write your comment, analyze the feedback you received from your peers, Dr. Strong, and Rachel on your pecha kucha. Use that information to answer the following questions:
1. What feedback information was most helpful to your group and why?
2. What patterns do you see in the feedback you received (be specific)? How do you plan to address these patterns?
3. If you had more time to work on your pecha kucha, what changes would you focus upon and why?
4. In what ways will this feedback help shape your PDM objectives?
Best of Luck!

1. What feedback information was most helpful to your group and why?
ReplyDeleteComment: We understand our topic very well and as per the valued feedback of the screening officials we are moving in the right direction.
This is really helpful as it serves as a strong affirmation and motivation for us to move forward.
Comment: The topic was not clear.
After we read the comments, we come to realize that we did not spend enough time explaining the big picture, i.e differentiated instructions. We realize we did not prepare our audience enough by giving them a strong big ideas instead we spent quite a great amount of time setting up the background knowledge, the issue we want to address, the rationale behind it and how this issue impacts the school, the teachers and the students. We have realized that we need to empathize with the audience and realize their need of understanding the big ideas besides the background information.
2. What patterns do you see in the feedback you received (be specific)? How do you plan to address these patterns?
Comment: There was a comment that says our presentation slides were not shared equally ie. unequal number of slides per person.
We had distributed our slides among different group members according to the relevance and connection between different slides so as to maintain the connectivity and the flow. We believe maintaining connectivity and flow of the slides/content is more important than dividing the slides equally; In such an arrangement it is not possible to get equal number of slides for everyone.
Comment: No smooth transition from one presenter to another.
We do realize the issue of transition between presenters. We had 3 meetings (with average of 3 hours per meeting) in 3 consecutive days for the Pecha Kucha presentations. By the time we get to the point to practice, we manage to help each other with script but we did not have enough time to practice together as a group. That is probably the reason. We plan to address this by investing more time in group practice instead of individual practice.
3. If you had more time to work on your pecha kucha, what changes would you focus upon and why?
We will practice as a group more as stated in question 2 above.
We will also dedicate a couple more slides to explain differentiated instruction with reason as stated in question 1 above.
4. In what ways will this feedback help shape your PDM objectives?
We have our objectives written and explained at the end of our Pecha Kucha. And special thanks to the affirmation from the comments that said our objectives were well written. We think this will help us to move forward in confidence and judge our own objectives even more critically to see if we can make it better.
1. The most helpful feedback that we received as a team is we should consider other tools. However after considering many tools, we want to be specific and focus on nearpod and answerables. We also give freedom for teachers to explore other tools for their classroom.
ReplyDelete2. The most common positive feedback is that our preparation and presentation of scripts are clear and successful. It is apparently due to our coherent storyline , repetitive rehearsals , and planning. Whereas, we got the lowest score in the issue analysis. We believe as a team that this is due to our implicit presentation of our issues; we presented our issues in a very indirect way following a storyline this is why maybe it was hard for some people to get it. Our initiative to be different and creative by using cartoon characters was criticised by some but this is our own notion of creativity.
3. Since the majority stated that they did not really get our issue due to our implicit presentation of our topic, we agree as a team that if we had more time to work on our pecha kucha once again we would have explored and explained the issue in a very detailed way.
4. The feedback we got will help us see the loopholes in our PDM so that we can see it from the perspectives of audience and work on clearer objectives. We are always in need of constructive criticism to make sure that we are really on the right track.
1: The most helpful feedback for our group were the considerations in the way we presented our PECHA KUCHA, also detailed remarks mentioned on the back of the feedback papers.
ReplyDelete2: The most of the feedback was on the pattern that our selection of images and topic content and presentation were more than appropriate. We will keep this pattern in the future also.
3: If we had more time, we would have balanced the slides presentation and reduce the text on each slide and rehearse a little bit more to present it for the sake of being in line with the requirements of pecha kucha presentation.
4: We can do better in the future by finding a way to know the content and not read it from the slide, be more fluid on the presentation. About the OBJECTIVES, no one gave us any feedback on that, so we assume its clear enough for this moment.
GROUP: Albertina, Bhupinder, Philemon and Mansour.
GROUP - THE ASSESSORS
ReplyDelete1. The time between slides and talking because at times we seemed to lag behind the slides and that can bring about confusion on the understanding. Avoid unnecessary information on a particular slide to help with timing and talking.
2. Slide show
Presentation skills
Visual appeal and creativity
We shall practice more before presentation and use the tools for making improvement with visual appeal and creativity. We also should choose the proper images and and texts to avoid distraction.
We need to avoid unnecessary words or phrases that can hinder the understanding of the presentation.
3. If we had more time we would practice more.
We would also make deeper research to find proper images and text and avoid unnecessary words.
4.In the PDM, this feedback will help us focus more on the objectives and to hone them so that they become more specific and clearer. We will take more time to review the issues and then try to find the solutions.
